Black Hair Care styling question?
I used to have a hairdresser that moved away that used rods to give me soft, bouncy, and shiny ringlets. I have tried 6 other people who cannot seem to do it. It is either dull or hard, sometimes dull and hard. Can someone please give me tips on what I should suggest that my new hairstylist use to give me bouncy, shiny, and soft ringlets? My other hairstylist will not divulge her secrets.
Extra: My old hairdresser used setting lotion and they were still shiny, bouncy, and soft. And I set under the dryer. It is the these people not knowing the proper technique and using the correct products that is messing me up.
You could try a straw set yourself or your hairdresser could try it. The curls could be possibly smaller than the rod set but you would still get the ringlets that you desire. Use a setting lotion (or wrapping lotion which won’t make your hair hard) also use a hair creme or oil because you don’t want your hair to dry out. It will be really tight when you first take them out but about two days later… they’ll loosen up. When you roll it with the straw make sure to start at the bottom with the end of your hair and spiral up so that the it will give you the spiral curl and not just a roller curl. I let mine air dry overnight instead of going under the dryer cause that may be what’s causing it to be dry or hard. When you take it out, apply hair oil (jojoba, coconut, carrot, etc) to give it that extra shine. Be very delicate removing the straws, don’t just pull them out – unroll them while gently pulling down.
